Effective December 4, 2014, membership in AAMAS is no longer a CMAS requirement. The Council recognizes the many relevant organizations that work with our core mission. Therefore, membership to a revenue integrity organization or quality management organization is now acceptable. Examples would be HFMA, AHIA, AAPC, AHIMA, state affiliated Medical Auditor Associates (FMAA, TMAA, etc.) and this list can go on. A membership to at least one organization is still a requirement.
Also, effective June 1, 2014, you will only need 24 hours of continuing education units to renew. For this renewal cycle, this will mean those 24 hours will need to have been obtained between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2015.
Please note that we do not need copies of all those education units. We will request them based on random audits to ensure compliance with these requirements.
This is the BIG renewal year for all of us who were at Scottsdale in 2000. Also, those of you who tested at the 2003 annual conference in San Diego, CA, 2006 in Houston, TX, 2009 in Denver, CO, and 2012 in Phoenix, AZ. Please check your certificate to make sure you are up for renewal. We don’t want anyone to be unable to renew this year, and we hope we reach ALL of you!!
A new and exciting update is that the Certification Council of AAMAS has moved forward on our strategic goal of becoming integrated in multiple association’s as the designation of choice (CMAS.) We are now a unique legal entity formally called The Certification Council for Medical Auditors, Inc. Please bear with us as we work toward our complete tax and legal status. There is much to accomplish, and as volunteers, we are often pulled away towards our “real jobs.” While these changes do reflect our long-standing mission to be an independent organization, that does not diminish our deep respect for AAMAS and it’s members. We hope you will embrace our changes and join us as we grow and prosper in our mission of creating Certified Medical Audit Specialists (CMAS) in the many venues that audit occurs in today’s healthcare marketplace.
